Drops

There are four kinds of stock drop, plus card drops. Each stock drop holds one of four stock tokens: AAPL, TSLA, NVDA or AMZN.

Local sun time is worked out from a place’s longitude. It can differ from the local clock, sometimes by an hour or more.

Flagship drops

Each UTC day, each stock gets one flagship of the day. It is picked at random from that stock’s landmarks that have most of their daylight still ahead, and it is never yesterday’s pick when another one fits.

  • AAPL: 35 Apple stores, such as Apple Fifth Avenue, Ginza, Champs-Élysées and Marina Bay Sands.
  • TSLA: 12 Tesla sites, including the Gigafactories in Texas, Berlin, Shanghai, Nevada and New York, the Fremont Factory and the Tesla Diner.
  • AMZN: 11 places, including Amazon HQ2, The Spheres, Amazon Tower Berlin and Whole Foods flagships.
  • NVDA: 5 places: NVIDIA’s Endeavor and Voyager buildings, Stanford’s Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center, the Denny’s where NVIDIA was founded, and NVIDIA Israel.

A flagship is open from 08:00 to 22:00 local sun time. It keeps its whole window even when a new UTC day starts.

It holds one drop at a time. After a catch, the next drop there opens when the day’s hourly budget allows, with a fresh grade and amount.

Every point is a public spot: a plaza, an entrance or a sidewalk, never inside a closed campus.

Store drops

Each UTC day, SNAP picks a random set of real stores for each stock, from all over the world:

  • AAPL: Apple stores;
  • TSLA: Tesla locations;
  • AMZN: Whole Foods;
  • NVDA: NVIDIA offices.

Each picked store gets at most one drop that day. It opens at 10:00 local sun time, or when the store is picked if that is later, and stays until 20:00.

How many stores are picked follows that day’s budget, up to 60 per stock. Stores that are open are served in a random order, so the earliest time zones don’t take the whole day.

City spot drops

121 famous public places take turns, such as Brandenburg Gate, Cloud Gate and the Gateway of India.

A drop opens at a spot that is inside its 09:00–22:00 window and has no drop yet. It lasts up to 45 minutes, or until the window closes.

Its stock is picked at random from the four. The more of a stock’s budget is left today, the likelier that stock is.

After a catch, the spot rests for 45 to 120 minutes. The next drop there is a fresh pick of stock, grade and amount.

Random drops (on the streets around players)

When a wallet that qualifies for stock is playing with few stock drops nearby, SNAP places new ones a short walk away, at real places from its map. Each lasts 45 minutes.

Once a random drop appears, it is public. Anyone within 3 km sees it, and any wallet that qualifies can catch it. It isn’t saved for the player whose walk created it.

One wallet’s walk creates at most 3 open at once, and at most 12 per UTC day.

Card drops

Card drops hold no stock. They are for everyone: guests, players without $SNAP, and holders who reached today’s stock limits. They also fill in when there is little stock to drop.

Each card drop is yours alone: only you see it, and only you can catch it.

  • They appear wherever you play, a short walk away, keeping about 2 near you.
  • You can have 3 open at once.
  • Each lasts 45 minutes.

A card has a grade too, just for your binder, which keeps its place and grade; the photo stays for 12 hours unless you post it.

Every catch, card or stock, counts toward your daily catch limit. Once you reach it, no new card drops appear, and you can’t catch stock drops either until 00:00 UTC.

How big a drop is

Every drop is built from one unit, a common catch, whose dollar value shows here. A drop’s amount is that unit, times its grade, times its kind.

GradeMultiplier
Common×1
Rare×4
Epic×12.5
Legendary×50

The amount is sent in the stock token. Its common unit is worked out from the day’s price and rounded down to 0.000001 of a token, so the same grade and kind is worth about the same in dollars for all four stocks.

No drop is bigger than the vault can send in one payout.

When network fees rise, the common value rises with them, so a drop is always worth more than it costs to send. If fees climb too high, new stock drops pause until they fall.

The dollar figure on a card is the value when the drop opened. It is not a promise about the price.

Today’s odds

The odds for every stock and kind of drop show here, read from SNAP’s server.

If one drop of a grade would be too big for today’s stock budget, that grade is off for the day and shows 0%. The other grades share its chance. The odds change during the day only when network fees move the common value, up or back down. A roll is never redone.

Card drops carry no stock, so they are not in this table.
