The catch, step by step

Once you’re standing near a drop, a catch takes well under two minutes. Here is each step, with the limits that apply.

1. Open SNAP in Safari or Chrome

Go to snaphood.app and tap Play. Allow location and the camera when your phone asks.

If you opened the link inside X, Telegram, Instagram or another app, SNAP asks you to open it in Safari or Chrome first. Those in-app browsers often can’t use the camera or location. Wallets

Your phone needs a good GPS fix. Rough readings are ignored until a better one arrives.

2. Find a drop

The map shows:

  • stock drops within 3 km of you;
  • your own card drops;

A drop’s tile shows its stock (AAPL, TSLA, NVDA or AMZN) and its kind. It never shows the grade or the amount: those are revealed when you catch it. Drops

3. Walk within 150 m and tap Snap it

When you’re within 150 m, tap Snap it. That reserves the drop for you for 90 seconds, or until the drop expires if that comes first.

To reserve, SNAP needs a recent location from your phone that puts you within 150 m. You can hold one stock drop and one card drop at a time.

Guests, and wallets that don’t qualify, can see stock drops but can’t reserve them. The card tells you why, and what to do next. Who gets stock

4. Hold steady

The first 15 seconds after you reserve are the lock-on. The camera shows “In range · hold steady” with a countdown, then “Ready · take the shot”.

A shot taken too early gets “Hold steady a moment longer…”, and the same photo is tried again.

5. Take the photo

Take the photo before your 90 seconds run out. At that moment, your location must still be within 150 m.

If the camera won’t open, SNAP says so and shows a Take a photo button once the lock-on ends. It opens your phone’s camera app. When the camera does work, Use your camera app instead under the shutter does the same.

  • JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 2 MB. The app shrinks it for you.
  • Each photo file works for one catch, ever, by anyone. A photo that was already used gets “This photo was already used for a catch. Take a new one here.”
  • Three unusable photos end the reservation.

6. See what you caught

The first player to finish a catch takes the drop, and it leaves the map for everyone. Your card then shows one of these:

You seeWhat it means
+amount TICKER · ≈$valueA stock catch. The stock token is on its way to your wallet. Payouts
Card keptBetween reserving and catching, your wallet stopped qualifying or reached a daily limit. You keep the card, and the stock stays in the vault.
In your binderA card drop. Your binder keeps its place and grade. The photo stays for 12 hours unless you post it.

Stock tokens carry risks of their own. Stock-token risks

Example

One catch, with times

14:02:00
You tap Snap it, 120 m from the drop. It’s reserved for you until 14:03:30.
14:02:15
The lock-on ends: “Ready · take the shot”.
14:02:20
You take the photo. The card flips: a Rare AAPL drop.

If you had waited past 14:03:30, the reservation would have ended and other players could take the drop.

If something gets in the way

  • Someone else is catching it. You see “Someone is catching this one right now.” Their reservation lasts up to 90 seconds. Try another drop.
  • You let a drop go. Reserving another drop of the same type releases the one you held. If you release a drop, or your reservation runs out, you can’t reserve that drop again for a few minutes. Three unusable photos count as running out. For those few minutes the map shows “Someone is catching this one right now” on that drop, even though it’s you. Closing the camera doesn’t let a drop go: it stays yours until your 90 seconds end, and tapping it again carries on.
  • SNAP can’t read your $SNAP balance. This alone never counts as a no. If it happens as you shoot, your drop stays reserved: “We could not check your SNAP balance just now. Your drop is still held for you; try again in a few seconds.” If it happens as you tap Snap it, SNAP tries again for you; tap again in a few seconds if it still can’t.
  • Your location jumped. “Your location jumped. Stay put a moment while it settles.” A jump like that doesn’t reserve or catch anything. Fair play & privacy
  • You reached a daily stock limit. “More open at 00:00 UTC.” You can keep catching card drops until your daily catch limit. Who gets stock
  • You reached your daily catch limit. Every catch, card or stock, counts toward it. Once you reach it, you can’t catch stock drops either until 00:00 UTC, and no new card drops appear.

Playing as a guest

Opening the app gives you a guest profile with a random handle that starts with hunter_. Guests catch card drops.

Heads up

Connect first if you want to keep your cards

If you connect a wallet later, this browser moves to that wallet’s own profile, and your guest cards don’t come with it. Guests have no sign-out, because signing out would lose the cards.
